What Then? 03:27
Yes I recognize your face But you're not quite the social type Every night you lie awake And alphabetize your 45s From A to Z From Abba to the Zombies You use your taste to justify All the time that's gone to waste Since your last night with Mrs. Right The one who got away The one you can't replace If she stood outside your house Would you let her in? Would you try again? If she swore to figure this thing out What would you do then? Tell me what then Yes I know it's hard to see Why you need that so-and-so The hardest part of being free Is knowing where you're supposed to go You're stuck inside Night after night Oh here we go now one, two, three You reach for the telephone And hope you don't get the machine It's all you can do It's nothing new If he stood outside your house Would you let him in? Would you try again? If he swore to figure this shit out What would you do then? Tell me what then

I've had distractions, recreations Empty pursuits and flirtations I even committed to a few But why not include you? Or maybe it was you Who couldn't include me Knowing that yours is what I wanted to be We've heard all the reasons before Don't fault me if I want more Please don't think me weak I want another chance to speak And if I'm a fool who's lost his cool Then turn off your stereo Didn't you know? I fell over backward for you But forward was the way you went And whether that's false or true I only know the shot's been spent For me to be something other than The other man When my flirtations became frustrations And I lost touch with those sensations I could only think of you Oh what a Catch-22 If just for once the timing was right I swear to you, I won't put up a fight So treat me like an open book Come and take a closer look Please don't think me weak I want another chance to speak And if I'm a clown with a painted frown Then hang up your telephone Didn't you know? I fell over backward for you But forward was the way you went And whether that's false or true I only know the shot's been spent For me to be something other than The other man (CHORUS)

LA 04:33
I can see the fire in the canyon Come the dawn this place will be abandoned I got just enough to get us through the night Drink a glass of this stuff, babe, and it'll be alright The air clings to me now Like the whiskey on your breath It's too goddamn hot out here For all this talk of life and death I'd pass you the bottle If you could take another pull I'd like to light your cigarette But the ashtray's almost full I can see the storm beyond the spillway Coming down to wash those rusted heaps away Now the water's six feet high and rising fast All we've got's the moment so let's make it last The moon hangs overhead Like the ember from your hand Shining on the only souls In this godforsaken land I'll stay til the morning Even if the sun don't rise I'll take whatever comfort's left In your sweetly worded lies The earth shakes below my feet Like the heartbeat in your chest Just a little longer now And we'll be buried with the rest I'd pray for deliverance If there was anywhere to go I'll just lie down next to you And await the final blow

The Blade 03:09
Tell me do you jump at the things that bump in the middle of the night Under the bed and in your mind The devil is real but to break the deal when he barks you’ve got to bite Keep your head and you will find I’m the one To make ‘em bleed The cutting edge A killer needs The instrument Of your intent If you can tell right from wrong Use me either way In the longest night You will be the hand And I will be the blade Tell me do you hide when the beast inside comes out to feed again The rising heat in the falling dark Or do you get a rush when you feel the flush of blood against your skin The ragged beat of the animal heart I’m the one To cut the seams See me flash Hear them scream Tear the ghost From the host (CHORUS) Break from right and wrong Use me night or day In the longest fight You will be the hand And I will be the blade
7.
Look in my eyes And you will see Just how wrong A man can be Headstrong And still so weak I apologize Yet again For the shape I am in I’ll change But don’t ask when Tell me your side There’s always two It takes a life To know what’s true But I got time To learn from you Maybe your pride Is worth the pain As for me There’s only shame My need To explain Oh I don’t know Where we go from here Every little word is so sincere But the truth It ain’t as sweet As a lie That’s meant to leave A little mystery Oh I don’t know Where we go from here Every little word is so sincere But after all Honestly If you can lie You get to leave A little mystery

Strictly two by two's today Beats the stalls on the freeway We got nothing to do so let's stay And talk the whole day away Simply doomed by taste again But she seemed like a Greek fan It's one thing to try and defend Another to pretend No matter what gets thrown my way You can bet I'll stay the same Picked up, put down, past due Call me Mr. Tried and True

about

Only one word can describe Trade Heroes’ taste in music: omnivorous. From rustic rock to melancholic indie and subterranean heavy metal, from folk and pop punk all the way to the furthest reaches of experimental prog, the band’s sound is tailor made for their fellow omnivores. They’ve consumed everything they could get their hands on and come back with a flavor that is uniquely their own.

“We’ll Figure It Out”, Trade Heroes’ second LP, is all about synthesizing these disparate influences into a singular voice. It’s a voice that can call to mind Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers on “Carousel” in one moment and then deliver the show-stopping, demonically possessed epic “The Blade” in the next. They’re a band that hasn’t forgotten the almighty power of a facemelting guitar solo, courtesy of Marcus Rinehart. Or Evan Moore absolutely smacking the shit out of those drums. Or Jake Flynn and Sam Harwood laying down some tasty, hard-charging bass lines. But they can also switch gears, evoking the hypnotic strains of early Radiohead on “A Little Mystery”, or the reverberating, wistful echo of My Morning Jacket on “LA”. No matter what mode they’re in, that unmistakable Trade Heroes voice rings out.

Like a director using different genres to dig at the same gnawing themes, their songs are all hauntingly introspective, insightful, and open-hearted to an almost surgical degree. They're all about looking at your nostalgic memories, your mistakes and regrets, and above all yourself with unflinching honesty. All of which makes the LP’s title quite appropriate. This is an album all about the joy, the pain, the triumph, and the burden of figuring your shit out. And listening to this LP might help you figure some of your shit out right along with them.
